Report Center

The Report Center allows you to generate, schedule, and customize network reports. It includes pre-built report templates for common use cases, AI-powered narrative insights, a custom report builder with drag-and-drop widgets, and scheduling for automated delivery.

The top-right corner of the page displays two indicators:

  • AI Enabled — Confirms that AI-powered report generation is active. AI enhances reports with narrative summaries, trend analysis, and actionable recommendations.
  • Report Builder — Opens the custom report builder to create reports from scratch.

Tabs

The Report Center is organized into four tabs:

Report Templates

The default view displaying pre-built report templates. Each template is designed for a specific audience and use case, with curated sections that pull data from across WhiteOwl's monitoring sources.

Executive Summary

A high-level overview designed for management and leadership. Includes AI-generated narrative insights that translate raw network data into business-relevant findings.

AudienceManagement, leadership, stakeholders
AI Enhanced✅ Yes — AI generates narrative summaries and recommendations
SectionsExecutive Summary, Key Metrics, Traffic Analysis, Network Health, Recommendations

Security Report

A security-focused analysis with anomaly detection, designed for security teams and compliance reviews.

AudienceSecurity teams, compliance officers
SectionsSecurity Overview, Authentication Events, Traffic Analysis, Security Logs, Anomalies

Engineering Report

Detailed technical analysis for network engineers, focused on performance metrics, capacity planning, and traffic patterns.

AudienceNetwork engineers, NOC teams
SectionsCapacity Planning, Performance Metrics, Interface Analysis, Protocol Distribution, Top Talkers & Listeners

Probe Metrics Report

Synthetic monitoring and probe performance analysis, summarizing test results across all probes.

AudienceNetwork operations, SRE teams
SectionsProbe Overview, Latency Analysis, HTTP Checks, Availability

Generating a Report

Each template card provides three time range buttons for quick generation:

ButtonDescription
24hGenerate the report covering the last 24 hours.
7dGenerate the report covering the last 7 days.
30dGenerate the report covering the last 30 days.

Click a time range button to immediately generate the report. The generated report appears in the Generated Reports tab.

Click Customize on any template to modify which sections are included, adjust filters (e.g., limit to specific sites or devices), or change the report scope before generating.

Generated Reports

The Generated Reports tab lists all previously generated reports. Each entry shows the report name, template type, time range, generation timestamp, and status (complete or in progress).

From here you can:

  • View a generated report in the browser.
  • Download the report as a PDF.
  • Delete old reports that are no longer needed.

AI-enhanced reports (such as the Executive Summary) may take slightly longer to generate as the AI processes network data and composes narrative sections.

Custom Reports

The Custom Reports tab lists reports you have built from scratch using the Report Builder. Custom reports are saved and can be regenerated at any time with fresh data.

Schedules

The Schedules tab manages automated report generation and delivery. Create schedules to generate reports on a recurring basis and deliver them via email or webhook.

Report Builder

Click Report Builder in the top-right corner (or create a new report from the Custom Reports tab) to open the drag-and-drop report builder.

Structure

Reports are organized into sections, and each section contains one or more widgets. This structure lets you group related data together — for example, a "Traffic Overview" section with traffic trend and top applications widgets, followed by a "Security" section with authentication failures and anomaly data.

Sections panel (left sidebar):

  • Click + to add a new section.
  • Each section shows its name and widget count (e.g., "Section 1 — 6").
  • Sections can be reordered by dragging.

Section content (main area):

  • Click + Add Widget to add a widget to the current section.
  • Widgets are displayed in a two-column grid layout.
  • Each widget can be removed by clicking the × button.

Widget Types

Each widget has a title, description, and a visualization type selectable from a dropdown. Available visualization types:

VisualizationIconBest For
Line Chart📈Trends over time (e.g., hourly traffic, latency trends).
Bar Chart📊Ranked comparisons (e.g., top applications by traffic volume).
Top N List📋Ranked lists with values (e.g., top external destinations, top talkers).
Data Table📑Detailed tabular data (e.g., top source IPs by bytes, per-interface statistics).
Pie Chart🥧Proportional distribution (e.g., traffic by protocol, traffic by country).
Metric Card🔢Single aggregate value (e.g., total authentication failures, average latency).

Example Widgets

The screenshot shows a typical custom report layout with six widgets:

Top ApplicationsBar ChartTop apps by traffic volume.
External TrafficTop N ListNon-RFC1918 destinations — traffic leaving the internal network.
Top TalkersData TableTop source IPs by bytes transferred.

Auth FailuresMetric CardCount of failed authentication attempts.

Building a Custom Report

  1. Click Report Builder or create a new custom report.
  2. Add sections using the + button in the left sidebar. Name each section descriptively (e.g., "Traffic Overview", "Security Metrics").
  3. Within each section, click + Add Widget and configure the widget title, description, data source, and visualization type.
  4. Adjust visualization types using the dropdown on each widget to find the best representation for the data.
  5. Remove unwanted widgets with the × button.
  6. Reorder sections by dragging in the left sidebar.
  7. Click Save Report to save the custom report.

Once saved, the report appears in the Custom Reports tab and can be regenerated with fresh data at any time or added to a schedule for automated delivery.

Start from a Template

If a pre-built template is close to what you need, click Customize on the template card to use it as a starting point. Add, remove, or rearrange sections and widgets rather than building from scratch.
